Diploma Programme @ Huron - Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers) - 2/27/15 Edition

Dear Families Interested in the Diploma Programme @ Huron,

A few frequently asked questions/answers to share today:

Q1: If a current 8th grader wants to be in the Diploma Programme at Huron in 11th grade, should they transfer to Huron for 9th grade?
Answer:  Students/families should consider transferring to Huron for 9th grade.  This makes sense because students will be exposed to IB styles of teaching and learning through some units of inquiry during 9th and 10th grade as the Middle Years Programme is developed.  This exposure will likely help the student make the best/most successful transition to the Diploma Programme in 11th grade.

Q2:  What classes will be offered as part of the Diploma Programme at Huron starting the fall of 2017?
Answer:  We have a draft list of classes we expect to offer to the first group of students entering the DP...and expect to announce the classes soon.  It will be an attractive set of options for students wanting a DP option for high school.  Stay tuned.

Q3: Will all students in 9th and 10th grade at Huron be "IB students"?
Answer:  Yes.  The Middle Years Programme is inclusive by design and is appropriate for all students.  The following link should help to show this and explain further:  http://a2-ib.blogspot.com/p/ib-programs-overview.html

I hope these questions and answers are helpful to you.  If you have other questions, please let me know.

We are excited to announce that Kindergarten Round Up at Mitchell School will be on February 24, 2015 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM.  Children who turn five on or before September 1, 2015 are eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year.  Children who turn five between September 2 and December 1, 2015 are eligible to enroll if parents wish for them to enroll early AND they fill out a kindergarten waiver form.

Mitchell School will be the only school in Ann Arbor to become an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme school.  Our work has started and will extend the excellence Mitchell is known for.  Families who live in Ann Arbor or in Washtenaw County are eligible to enroll.  Click here for more information.
At the round up presentation, we'll share information about the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and important information about preparing for the kindergarten year including registration information and information about the kindergarten curriculum.
Please bring your child as we'll have an activity for them in the kindergarten classrooms with the teachers.
If your child falls into the eligible age range, please do two things now:
1. Call the Mitchell School office at 997-1216 to give your child's information. This will let us know to expect you for the presentation.
2. Put Kindergarten Round Up on your calendar. It will be held in the multipurpose room at Mitchell.
Also, if you know of a family who will have a kindergarten aged child for next year, please share this information with them. We'd love to get to know them.
If you have questions or if you would like to schedule a separate meeting with us, please call the school office at 997-1216.
Sincerely,
Kevin Karr
